Jennifer graduated with a Master of Arts in Counseling in 2001 from Campbell University and received a Bachelor of Arts from North Carolina State University in Communications.

Jennifer and her husband live in the Lake Norman area and have three children who are actively involved in sports and dance. She enjoys Panthers football, spending time with family and interior design.

Jennifer has worked in a number of settings, including Community School of Davidson, Cabarrus County School System, Duke University Medical Center and their ADHD Program, Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC, and the Department of Child and Family Services in Wake County. Since 2012, she has worked in the school systems and part-time in private practice. Jennifer was most recently employed at Community School of Davidson and Lake Norman Family Therapy. Jennifer enjoys working with all ages but specializes in working with children (10 and older), adolescents, and their families. Jennifer’s experience as a school counselor makes her especially helpful for those children and families experiencing difficulty within the school or with behavioral-educational issues. Jennifer also works with adults during difficult life transitions.  Jennifer sees clients struggling with depression, anxiety, anger, life changes, family stressors, behavioral challenges, and ADHD.   

Jennifer is fully licensed to practice in North Carolina. ​

  • Jennifer offers daytime, weekday appointments.

  • ​Jennifer is eager to meet with you in person for your most productive counseling experience.


    Telehealth counseling can be used as a secondary modality when necessary.

    Kara provides individual and family sessions.

  • Non-insurance rates are as follows:
    ​  Assessments/Initial Evaluations: $175/hour
    Individual therapy hours thereafter: $165/hour
    Consultation (Individual or Family): $175/hour

    Hammett Counseling and Consulting, PLLC maintains contracts with the above insurance companies. 

    If you are using in-network insurance, your rates will differ based on those contracts.

  • No Surprises Act

    A detailed good-faith estimate of services will be provided to those clients not using insurance ​at the time of service or upon request.
