Amy is a proud Tarheel, graduating from Chapel Hill in 1995 with Highest Honors. She then attended the University of Illinois and graduated from the Dual Degree Program with a Masters of Social Work and a Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy in 1998.
She worked in Illinois for several years and then relocated back to North Carolina in 2000. After working in various clinical settings, she accepted a position with a group private practice in 2007 to balance life and work. Thirteen years later, she proudly opened her own individual practice in 2020.
Amy lives in the Lake Norman area and has two daughters. She and her husband have been married for over 22 years. Amy enjoys theater, singing, gardening, and anything chocolate. The family has two cats and lots of fish.

Amy is known as a direct, honest, and empathic counselor. Her experience is diverse, including working with adolescents in residential treatment, providing direct care and clinical supervision in a non-profit setting, and supporting patients and families struggling to live with chronic and terminal illnesses. She has expertise in end-of-life planning and caregiver support.
Trained primarily as a relationship counselor, she enjoys working with couples of all types. Amy also sees individual adults to support their goals toward better mental health. Amy was previously trained as a Love and Logic provider and has 20+ years of experience working with parents on parenting techniques for children of all ages.
She regularly works with other "helping" professionals to manage personal and work stress while improving coping and self-care. Amy utilizes all types of techniques in therapy and can customize her approach to provide an individualized therapeutic experience.
Amy is fully licensed to practice in North Carolina.

Amy offers daytime appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Amy is eager to meet with you in person for your most productive counseling experience.
In-person sessions are required for couples counseling with Amy.
Telehealth counseling can be used as a secondary modality when necessary.Amy provides individual and couples sessions.

Non-insurance rates are as follows:
Assessments/Initial Evaluations: $200/hour
Therapy hours thereafter: $170/hour
Consultation (Individual, Family, or Couples): $200/hourCouples seeking counseling should schedule a consultation that they can both attend first.
Couples counseling is private pay only (not submitted to insurance).
Individual counseling sessions will be submitted to in-network insurance; coverage may vary.
Clients will be responsible for the full fee (or their insurance obligation) at the time of service.Amy R. Young, LCSW, PLLC maintains contracts with the above insurance companies.
If you are using in-network insurance, your rates will differ based on those contracts.
